He watched her, he couldn't stop watching her. Everywhere she went he was only a few steps behind. He couldn't explain it, but he needed to see her, to make sure she was okay.
"Heart's beating too fast," a voice whispered beside him and he jumped, cursing at his carelessness. He should have heard her coming- he was a tracker after all. But, her feet never seemed to make any noise, like any real person.
"Gorramit girl!" he gasped as he stepped away from her fluttering dress. "Don'cha got somewhere-"
"Heart on a string," she singsonged as she smiled at him, gazing past him to the girl he was watching. "Beating too fast- can't seem to grasp what to say, what to do- she doesn't comprehend."
He stared at her and than followed her gaze, his heart skipping a beat as he watched Jamie brushing the mane of her ma, talking to Yo-Ling in a soft soothing voice. "Nothin' but crazy talk-" he muttered as he glanced back at River.
"Better get the rope," she whispered sadly as she reached out and touched his hand.
"Gorramit," he cursed, slapping her hand away. "Go pester, that fancy ghuh of yours."
She smiled at him before she darted down the stairs and he held his breath as she walked over to the Jamie. He strained to hear what they were whispering and he couldn't help but frown as Jamie glanced up and smiled at him before turning back to River.
"Gorramed crazy girl," He groaned as he shook his head, gripping the rail as he continued to watch them.
