"What in the sphincter of hell just happened on my gorram boat?" Mal's voice growled over the intercom and everyone froze in their respective spots for a brief second before resuming their routine.
Jayne rolled over in his bunk, ignoring all. Inara sipped at her tea, shaking her head at the uncouth interruption. Kaylee glanced up at the sound of his voice, rolling her eyes as she returned to her work. River giggled as she continued to roam the ship, knowing that all would be well.
"Came from the infirmary," Zoë drawled as she pointed to the console and Mal suddenly tensed, fingers clenching at his side.
"Tzao gao," He hissed, his heart skipping a beat as he raced down to the infirmary. He paused at the door, coughing as he tried to wave away the smoke. "Doc?" He gasped as he quickly made his way in.
"Simon!" Mal cried out as his eyes feel on the prone doctor, listless and seemingly not breathing on the floor. He knelt down beside him, turning him up to face him, sighing with relief as he witnessed him taking a slow breath.
Simon shifted in his arms and blinked up at him, "Captain?" he gasped as he quickly tried to get out of the loose hold Mal had him in. "What-" he began, stopping his movements as he quickly scanned the infirmary. "Oh."
"You gonna be okay, Simon?" Mal questioned and Simon shook his head in response, cocking his head to the side as he stared wide eye at Mal. "What?" He drawled.
"You called me Simon," he whispered, a small smile lighting up his face. He leaned in slightly, his lips barely brushing against Mal's.
"Suppose I did," he grinned, tightening his grip around the man in his arms. "Whatcha gonna do about it, doc?"
Simon responded with a soft kiss that grew into something more as they both clung to one another, neither willing to break the spell.
River smiled on, watching the new lovers. "Certain chemicals have combustible components if mixed wrong," she whispered as she pulled out various labels from her pocket and smiled.
