A breeze flows in through the window as a flicker of recognition lingers
in the air. I feel her, I sense her.
I turn the lights on, half expecting to see her there. I know she
will never come- she haunts me instead, she’s just a memory,
a photograph that my heart can never forget.
The doorbell rings and for a second I’m frozen in place. I pause
and then I run breathless down the stairs.
My heart races expectantly. I try to calm my raging senses and open
the door.
Our eyes lock. A million words hang in the air but nothing is said.
I feel the vibes of our electric passion and love lingering in the
air.
She lifts up a small bundle in her arms.
A flash of blue eyes.
A baby.
I'm speechless. My mind races as I reach out to him, mesmerized by
his eyes.
My eyes.
She smiles at me and my heart soars. She holds our baby, the creation
of our one perfect night. A night made in heaven, the best night of
my life.
A single tear falls from her eyes and I blink back my own. She holds
him out to me.
I take him and cradle him in my arms. I briefly look away from her
face and look down at his.
My heart skips a beat as the baby coos and smiles at me. I look up
and my heart starts to crack once again. She's gone.
