Story concept based loosely on ‘The Neverending Story’
by Michael Ende, et al. I know... I started a new fic. |
We have gathered here today, to join a Miss Maria Deluca and her
on again and off again, currently on, boyfriend Michael Guerin on
their summer road adventure. They have decided to go on another
clue finding scavenger hunt. Michael has had another dream about
a distant and far off place, otherwise known as New York City.
The biggest obstacle in their path had been convincing Ms. Deluca
in letting Maria go, but that’s another story and shall be told
at another time.
~
The drive went fairly smoothly considering Maria let Michael drive
the first leg of the trip.
“Michael?” Maria gasped as she looked at the map.
“What?” Michael groaned as he continued to watch the
empty road in front of him.
“We are going in the wrong direction.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Positive?”
“Michael.”
“I know we are going the right way.”
“But,” Maria whined as she handed him the map. “It
says right here that we are going in the wrong direction.”
“Oh, I forgot to tell you.”
“What?”
“We're going to see Laurie first.”
“Laurie? But that’s in the opposite direction from
New York.”
“She is funding the trip.”
“Oh,” Maria whispered in awe.
“Are you hungry?” Michael asked as he noticed a sign for
Burger Shack.
“Not really, but I do have to pee and it would be nice to
stretch out a little.”
Michael nodded and pulled into the Burger Shack parking lot. They
climbed out of the car and slowly stretched their cramped muscles.
“Did you want anything?” Michael asked as Maria turned
to the restroom.
“Fries and a soda,” She replied quickly as she went into
the bathroom.
“Girls,” Michael mumbled as he walked up to the register.
“Welcome to Burger Shack. Thank you for coming in. Would
you like to try a Super Duper Special?” The bored cashier
mumbled as he looked up at Michael.
“Umm.”
“Dude, if I where you I would leave now!” the cashier
warned in a hushed voice.
“Why?”
The cashier looked back towards the kitchen, thinking about the rat
droppings he had found earlier. He sighed and looked back at Michael.
“Do you value your health?” Michael took a second and
thought it over. “Believe me, you don’t want to eat here.”
Michael nodded and walked back to the restroom doors. The cashier
smiled, knowing that once again he saved another life. He could see
the manager walking towards him. He knew that the manager would yell
at him or flat out fire him, but that’s another story and shall
be told at another time.
“Let’s go,” Michael announced as he wrapped his
arm around Maria.
“Where’s the food?” Maria asked softly, slightly
confused.
“It was recommended that we eat somewhere else.” Michael
replied as he opened the door for her.
“I see, but why?"
“Didn’t ask.”
Maria sighed and buckled her seat belt. “This is gonna be
a long trip.”
“You are more then welcome to walk back.”
“Bite me, Space Boy!”
“Ah, an invitation?” He gasped as he leaned over and
kissed her softly on the lips. Then jokingly bit her lip.
“Jerk!” she cried as she pushed him away. “Just
drive.”
“As you wish.”
~
Our fearless couple had escaped the horrors of the Burger Shack
and were soon miles away from the infamous restaurant.
"I'm tired, can we stop somewhere?" Maria yawned as she
closed her eyes.
"Okay, but I don't want to share a bed with you."
"What?" Maria cried, now fully awake.
"You kick in your sleep," he chuckled to himself as she
hit him in the arm.
"I do not!"
"Do to."
"I didn't complain about your snoring!"
"I don't snore."
"Do too," Maria smirked as Michael jerked the car to
the side of the road and stopped.
"How can I snore, if you keep kicking me?"
"Why do you think I kick you in the first place?"
"What?"
"You heard me!"
A silence over came the couple as they heard a knock on the driver
side window. Both eyes darted across to see a cop in full gear.
"What can I do for you, Officer?" Michael asked as he rolled
down the window.
"Could you please step out of the car?"
"What is the problem?" Maria gasped as Michael politely
unbuckled his seatbelt.
"Miss, this is none of your concern. You were not driving
the vehicle."
"But it's my car!" She cried.
"It is?" The Officer asked as he moved from the window and
circled back to the trunk of the car. He studied the license plate
and returned back to the driver side window.
"What seems to be the problem?"
"Your license plate was flagged as stolen."
"Stolen?" Maria cried out. "Are you sure?"
"ROZ 269," the officer replied as he looked at his notepad.
"Umm... Officer, My license plate is 962 ZOR."
The Officer looked blankly at Maria and walked back around the
car. He looked up at the license plate. "Damn!"
He turned around and walked to his car. He couldn't believe he jad
pulled them over by mistake. He couldn't figure out his problem. He
had been so distracted by Allie, that he couldn't think straight,
but that's another story and shall be told at another time.
Michael and Maria watched in awe as the police car drove off. They
looked at each other and shrugged.
"Can we stop at the next hotel?" Maria asked.
"Sure," Michael whispered as he drove back on the road.
They drove in silence as Maria fell asleep. Michael spotted a sign
for Crankie's Love Shack and knew he would have to stop.
Michael left Maria in the car and walked up to the office.
"Can I help you?" A voice asked from behind the desk.
"Who is talking?" Michael asked as he looked for the
source of the voice.
"I am!" A voice cried from a small statue on the desk.
Michael blinked a few times and decided to play along.
"I need a room for the night."
"Why?"
"To have a wild night of passionate sex," Michael replied
sarcastically.
"Then suite 69 will be your best option."
"What? No, I just want to sleep."
"Fine, if you say so."
Michael continued to stare at the marble statue and reached out
to touch it.
"Don't touch the merchandise. You break it, you buy it!"
Michael snapped back his hand and looked around the room.
"Who is speaking?"
"I am!" The voice cried from the statue.
"Whatever, can I have a key?" Michael cried as he placed
a hundred dollar bill on the counter.
An elderly man jumped out from behind the corner and took the money
and gave Michael his change and a room key. "Enjoy the room."
Michael blinked again and walked out of the office slightly dazed.
The elderly man chuckled as he touched the statue, "Works
every time." The man thought back to his show days a ventriloquist,
but that's another story and shall be told at another time.
Michael drove the car around to the room and woke up Maria. "I
got a room."
Maria nodded and they got out of the car. Michael grabbed the overnight
bag and walked to the room.
Soon they were snuggled into the large heart shaped bed and were
fast asleep.
~
Our loving couple started to stir in their heart shaped bed. Maria
looked up and took in the tacky surroundings.
"Michael?" she called out as she hit him on the head. "Where
are we?"
"Huh?" he moaned as he rubbed his eyes.
She rolled her eyes in response. "Where are we?" She
asked again.
"Crankie's Love Shack," he mumbled as he turned back
around and tried to go back to sleep.
"Crankie's Love Shack." Maria repeated as she looked
up and noticed the mirrors on the ceiling. "Ahh!"
"What?" Michael cried, sitting up.
"You brought me to nookie motel?" She gasped.
Michael just laughed in response as she stood up and went to the
bathroom.
Maria got ready to go as Michael packed up their stuff and they
were soon back on the road.
"I'm hungry!" Maria pouted.
Michael kept his eyes on the road, ignoring her request.
"Michael, I'm hungry and thirsty!!"
"Well, I'm Friday. Come over Saturday and we'll have a Sunday."
"Why do I even bother?" she moaned as they saw a billboard
for a Burger Shack.
"We can try it again," Michael mumbled.
"I'm starving. Anything will do."
"Okay." Michael replied as he turned off the highway.
Micheal and Maria stepped out of the car as three biker chicks came
out of the resturant.
"I wouldn't go in there if I were you." One of the girls
warned as they walked to their bikes.
"Why would you say that?" Maria asked as she walked up
to the girl.
"You're not from around here are you?" Another biker chick
asked as she came up from behind them and approached her friends.
"We're from Roswell. I'm Maria and this lug, here, is my boyfriend
Michael."
"I'm Ricki Bicardi and these fine chicas behind me are Jack Le
Rossi, Jimmy Cognac and Morgan Bailey."
"Nice to meet you." Maria replied as Michael continued
to stare at the four girls in front of him.
"Those are alcohol names..." Michael gasped. The girls
tried hard to stifle their laughter.
"They our are band names," Rossi laughed.
"We form the new up and coming band," Jimmy announced.
"The 'In Gang'," Bailey continued.
"I like it," Maria replied. "But why shouldn't we
eat in there?"
"Never eat... grab a drink or take a piss, but never eat."
Ricki replied as she got on her bike.
"A band?" Michael gasped as his eyes narrowed on to the
black leather garments that hugged the girls bodies.
"A little dense, now aren't we," Jimmy laughed as she
wrote down the band name on a napkin and handed it to Rossi.
"If you are ever back around this area, we play at the Night
Owl. Give this to the bouncer and he'll let you in free with drinks
on the house. No questions asked." Rossi explained as she handed
them the napkin.
"We might just do that," Maria replied as she looked
at the two signatures on the Night Owl Napkin. "Why two signatures?"
"You need to know two of us to get in." Bailey shouted
out over the purr of the engines.
"Don't eat!" Ricki cried out again as they started to
leave.
"Thanks!" Maria shouted back as she hit Michael on the
head.
The girls laughed at the break in their morning routine. They were
headed to the studio that morning to record their new songs. It
had been a long battle and they had finally made it.
Ricki looked back at her girls and smiled. They were kindred spirits
on the road to success, but that is another story and shall be told
at another time.
"I liked them," Maria replied as she headed for the car.
"We'll stop somewhere else."
Michael nodded and followed her to the car. He still had a dazed
expression on his face.
"Would you like it if I wore something like that?" Maria
purred into his ear.
"Yes!" He cried out a little to quickly.
"Too bad Space Boy... only in your dreams."
"That can be arranged," Micheal whispered to himself
as he climbed into the car.
"How much further until Laurie's?" Maria asked as her
stomach growled.
"Maybe an hour or so."
"Well, let's go."
The couple were off once more avoiding the horrors of the Burger
Shack. They had an hour and a half to go on their journey to Laurie's
house.
~
We join our hungry couple once again as the reach the Dupree estate.
"We are finally here!" Maria cried out as she crawled
out of the car.
Laurie had seen them come up the drive and walked out to meet them
at the gate.
"Hi!" Laurie cried out as she hugged Michael and then
Maria.
"You look great," Maria stated as her stomach growled.
"Are you hungry?" Laurie laughed as she lend them in
the house.
"I'm da Man!" An elderly man cried as he opened the door.
"I'm da what?" Michael snipped as the elderly man stood
waiting at their side.
"Guys, this is Daren. He's the new butler." Laurie giggled
as she waved them back into the dining room.
"I'm da Man!" Daren cried out once more before he left
the room.
"What is he saying?" Maria asked Laurie.
"I'm not sure, I think he is saying I'm da man, as in I'm
the Man."
"Odd." Michael whispered as they sat down to eat.
The butler glanced at them and sneered. "I'm da Man!"
He turned around and walked up the stairs. He glanced over his albums
and sighed, "I was da Man."
He hugged his albums to his chest and put a record on. A trumpet blared
and a band played on, he remembered his life of a past forgotten,
but that’s another story and shall be told at another time.
Meanwhile, downstairs.
"This is so, good," Maria giggled as she took another
bite of her sandwich.
"It's only a sandwich," Laurie shrugged and looked over
at Michael who was just finishing up his sandwich.
"But when you haven't eaten in days-" Maria sighed, "It's
so good."
Laurie giggled, "days?"
Michael looked at Maria and she shrugged, "Well, almost a
day."
"So, how long are you staying? What are your plans?"
Laurie inquired.
"Well, we are done." Michael replied as Maria shot him
a glance of disbelief.
"But what about the dream?" Maria asked.
"Well, last night I realized what it all meant." Michael
replied, "So, the trip to New York is off."
"So, does that mean we can hang out in the lap of luxury?"
Maria asked her eyes shinning brightly.
"Yep," Michael replied laughing.
"Yes?" Maria cried. "Laurie, do you mind?"
"Not at all," Laurie replied happily. "Please, stay
as long as you want."
"We might just do that," Maria giggled as she walked
over and tackled Michael.
So, our couple embraced a new change in plans and decided to stay
a week or two at the mansion, but that’s another story and
shall be told at another time.
