S1 - The White Room |
Isabel takes the picture frame and gazes lovingly at her brother.
His safety is hitched to what she may find out, if she is able to
reach him.
If.
Her mind races with doubts and fear. She doesn’t have faith
in her abilities, she is afraid of failing him.
She sighs, trying to calm her racing heart and mind. She climbs onto
the bed next to Alex and he wraps an arm protectively around her.
In his safe embrace, she closes her eyes and tries to relax, clearing
her mind of everything but Max. Her fingers brush against his image
and she searches out for him. Max!
She calls out with her mind.
Nothing. Max!
She calls out once more, desperate to find him, to find anything.
Nothing.
Her body lurches with fear as a flash of white flickers before her
eyes, and she stumbles back against a padded wall. She feels the connection
growing stronger, but she can’t make anything out. “Max!”
she cries out as she finds herself in a white room. Her vision remains
cloudy, distorted - as if she has been drugged. All she can see is
white.
She blinks, trying to clear her vision. The bright white light glaring
back at her, mocking her. “Max!” she screams,
her heart growing with trepidation.
“Isabel,” a voice echoes in her mind. “Max?”
she questions as she turns around searching for her brother, for anything.
Her body falters and she feels weak, unable to move, trapped in his
drugged subconscious. “Max!”
“Isabel,” he whispers as he flickers in and out of her
sight. Her heart screams out in pain as she sees her brother’s
battered body cuffed to the wall. “Max,” she
gasps as she fights the inertia and manages to crawl over to him.
“Oh, God. Max,” she cries as pulls herself up, and grasps
onto the side of his face, willing him to look up at her. “Where
are we?” “I don’t know,” he shudders
as his gaze locks with hers. In an instant she can feel all his pain
and fear. “Get out-“ “No. Who took you?
Where did they take you?” she begs as she clings onto him -
needing to find out, needing to help.
He shakes his head. “I don’t know,” he whispers
harshly. “You must go.” “No!” she
cries out, feeling frustrated. “Max,” she sighs as she
concentrates on him further. “Show me.”
His eyes roll back and she instantly connects to his memory. Her heart
races, and her breathing hitches in pace. She cries out in pain as
she sees a glimpse of his recent past.
Jumbled images of a star on the floor; Max strapped onto a gurney;
hoardes of people hovering over him flash quickly before her. Only
one thing sticks clearly in her mind. A man in uniform, he looks vaguely
familiar and she squints to see him better. “Deputy Fisher?”
she questions as he shakes his head.
“Look again,” he whispers as she takes another look only
to see him in a suit, hovering over him.
Agent Pierce.
Her heart skips a beat. “Deputy Fisher is Agent Pierce?”
she questions more to herself, knowing deep down the answer to the
question. “Max?”
“You have to go,” he yells as he tries to push her away
with his mind.
“No,” she protests as she clings onto him. “No.
I’m not leaving you.”
He shakes his head and looks up at his sister, his emotions rolling
off him in waves. She freezes in pain and fear. She cries out in anguish
as he continues to push her away. “Go now.” “Max!”
she cries out as she wakes up with a start, pulling away from Alex.
“Max! Max! Oh, God! Oh, my God.”
She stares at the others who come up and surround her, offering love
and protection. She tries to calm her breathing as she recalls the
scattered images in her mind. She sighs, knowing that at least he
is alive. He’s scared and hurt, but he is alive. It’s
a start.
