Summary The gang goes to a Halloween bash.
Author's Note This fic is based on the challenge for Ditch the Logical's first Fanfiction Contest.

I glance around the crowded hallway as a bright orange flyer flutters to the ground. I lean over and pick it up, the black bold lettering catching my eye, "Halloween Bash."

"A Halloween Bash?" I whisper to myself as I read the details of the upcoming masquerade.

"Are you going?" I turn around quickly and I look up at the boy I was destined to be with.

"Not sure." I sigh, still hanging onto the notion that he would ask me. That our destiny means something-

"Liz and I-" he smiles as another dagger is pushed into my heart. I manage a smile as his voice trails on and I chose to ignore him.

It's way to early in the morning for this! I sigh and I lean up against the lockers. I look towards Max and I try to figure out what I ever saw in him.

"Would someone please explain to me, how the hell we're suppose to make sense of anything he just said!?" Kyle whispers into my ear and I can't help but grin in response.

Kyle grins and his eyes flash with mischief. "Shh-" I giggle as I playfully hit him.

"Ow-" Kyle groans as he rubs his arm. "That hurt," he pouts as I laugh.

"Please!" I grin as he winks and turns towards his morning class. I turn my attention back to Max and I nod as he continues to talk.

We walk towards our morning class and I doubt he even notices that I'm not listing or that I don't really care.

"Tess?" Max questions as we take our seats. "Didn’t you hear me?"

"Huh?" I groan as I turn to him.

He shakes his head in disappointment, "never mind-"

Before I could reply to his remark, the teacher begins his lecture.

I sigh in defeat and I pull out my binder from my book bag. I open my binder to yesterday’s notes and my heart skips a beat as I notice a small note scribbled in my lecture notes. Three little words that caught in my throat- "Eraser Room, Now."

My hand shots up and I look towards Mr. Boling expectantly. "Yes, Ms. Harding?"

"Can I use the restroom?" I ask as he shakes his head in response. "I need to change my feminine product-" I add as his eyes widen.

"Don't be too long-" he replies quickly and I nod in response, works every time.

I practically run to the eraser room. "Hello?" I whisper as I walk into the darkened room.

I feel a hand around my waist and I relax at his familiar touch. His lips brush against my neck and I turn to him.

I bury my head into his chest as he runs his hand through my hair. I look up at him as his lips touch mine.

For a second, I feel like I am floating as I lose myself in his kiss. He pulls away and I gasp at the loss of his touch.

"Morning," he whispers as he pulls me tighter to him.

"Morning," I reply as I wrap my arms around him. I look into his crystal blue eyes and I sigh. "This isn't fair!"

"Tess," he replies firmly. "You know we can't go public-"

"Kyle-" I groan as he nibbles on my ear, causing me to lose my train of thought.

"You want to go the Halloween Bash with me?" He asks as I study him.

"Are you serious?" I question. "As a real couple?"

"Well-" Kyle sighs as he pulls away.

"Then, no-" I reply as I feel the threat of tears. "I'm tired of this."

"We have no other choice," he tries to explain as I shake my head. I've heard it so many times before.

"I have class-" I reply bitterly and I leave him in the eraser room.

My thoughts race as I sit through my morning classes. I glance over at Max, one of the reasons Kyle and I have kept our budding romance quite. Destiny is such a cruel word.

I glance out the window and sigh. The Sheriff is the other reason, the main reason.

"Tess?" I look towards Isabel and smile. "Are you going to the Halloween Bash?"

"Not sure-" I reply as she grins.

"I am," she smiles. "Kyle asked me."

I blink and I try to remember to breathe, "he did?" I feel the threat of tears and I want to scream. "What about Alex?"

"Well, Kyle asked me last period and I said yes." Isabel explains as a pit forms in my stomach.

"Oh," I reply as the bell rings.

"See you later," she replies as she runs off to her next class and I turn to mine.

My thoughts race as I struggle to catch my breath. He had asked Isabel? Isabel?

"Why not me?" I groan as I slam my bag onto the desk.

"Bad day?" I turn to Alex and I sigh.

"Something like that-" I sigh as I take a seat.

"Can I do anything?" He questions. Good old Alex. He’s such a good friend, even to me-

I smile at him as a plan formulates in my head. "Want to go the Halloween bash with me?"

He takes a second to ponder his answer, please say yes.

"Why not-" he smiles and I hug him. If Kyle can do it, so can I.

I stare blankly at myself in the mirror as I adjust the straps to my gown, the milky blue fabric radiating softly in the light.

My skin tingles and my body sways with unspent passion, I can feel him. I lift my eyes up from the layers of my gown and I notice Kyle standing behind me in our reflection in the mirror.

I hold my breath as he takes a step closer to me. I close my eyes as the air snaps with electricity.

"You look beautiful," he whispers into my ear as he wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me into his body.

My body trembles slightly at the warmth of his body, "thank you-"

He turns me around and I look up at him, our lips are only inches away. I am dying to kiss him, to feel his lips on mine- I want him so much.

The doorbell rings and I realize why I’ve tried to keep my distance from him, why I’m not going to the party with him.

"That must be Alex," he grumbles as I pull away slightly, his hand still lingering on my waist.

"Must be," I whisper as I notice the flicker of jealousy in his eyes.

"Don't want to keep him waiting," he replies bitterly as the door bell rings again.

I nod and turn from him, my heart aching- I just want him to forbid me to go, for him to ask me to go with him.

Instead, I watch him answer the door and let Alex in.

"Tess," he sighs as he looks at me. "You look beautiful."

I smile as I hear Kyle groan in response. "Thank you," I reply as I look at his attire. "Looking good yourself-"

I hear Kyle snort and I turn to him. Our eyes lock, and for a second I think he may actually stop me from going with Alex. My heart swells and then plummets when he looks away from me.

"Have fun-" Kyle whispers as he leaves me alone with Alex.

"Let's go," I sigh as Alex looks in the direction that Kyle went.

"Is everything, ok?"

"Just peachy," I reply as I take his hand and head out the door.

It's going to be a long night.

The party is in full gear when we arrive at the party. Alex and I make small chit chat as we dance and make fun of the costumes around us.

I feel at ease with Alex, but I keep looking for him- Kyle.

"Drink?" Alex offers as I nod and he hands me a glass of punch. He takes a sip and immediately grabs my glass.

"What?" I question as Alex sighs with obvious relief.

"Someone spiked the punch," he explains as I suddenly
understand.

"Oh," I smile. "Thank you-"

"No problem-" he chuckles. "We wouldn't want to repeat the Max fiasco."

I nod as my skin tingles, I can feel him. I look up, knowing that he is somewhere nearby.

I glance around the room and my gaze settles on him. Our eyes lock and I want nothing more then to shout out that I love Kyle Valenti-

He turns away and I sigh in defeat- maybe we are not meant to be after all. I've been wrong before.

I glance over at Alex and I can see the love in Alex's eyes, "why don't you ask her to dance?" Alex shrugs at my request. "Go on-" I smile. "I know you want to."

"You're the best," Alex whispers as he kisses my hand and turns to his princess.

"Someone should be happy-" I whisper to myself as I turn away and walk out into the cool nights air.

My name is whispered and I turn to see Max standing before me. "Tess-" he whispers again, as he steps forward to me.

"Yes?" I question, noticing his glassy gaze. "Are you ok?"

"Never better-" he replies as he wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me closer to him.

"Max!" I squeal in shock as he kisses my neck. I try to pull him away as he pulls me tighter against him. "Stop it-" I mumble against his lips as they come crashing down on mine.

I should be happy, I should be ecstatic- this is what I’ve wanted for so long. But, it feels so wrong.

"Alien bastard!" I hear Kyle growl as he pulls Max away from me. "Are you ok?" he questions me, his eyes blazing with worry.

"I will be-" I whisper as he nods and turns his attention back to Max. I flinch with pain as Kyle's fist meets Max's face.

"Hey!" Max cries as he tries to punch Kyle back, but misses. Max wobbles slightly and we all know that he is drunk. He must have had a sip of the punch.

Kyle punches him once more, "don't you ever touch her
again."

I can’t help but grin as Kyle then turns to me and walks me away from all the commotion. "Kyle-" I begin, before he shuts me up with a kiss.

I melt into his arms as our kiss deepens. We break apart gasping for air. "Oh, Kyle-" I gasp against his ear.

I glance around the empty room and I suddenly don’t care if anyone does know about us or not, as long as he is in my arms-

"I'm sorry," Kyle whispers between soft kisses.

"We're together now," I grin, kissing him once more.

"Yes, and soon the world will know how much I love you-"

"Soon-"
