 End of the World

Pairing(s) FF, Kyle/Isabel, Kyle/Tess
Rating PG-13
Summary Future Max predicted the end of the world if the four were not together to fight off their enemies. He was right... Tess comes back to Earth to see the results. Set ten years after Departure.

The sky was not crystal blue like she remembered. A dark layer of clouds lingered in the air shutting out the sun. The Earth was dark, lifeless.

“What happened?” She whispered as she started to walk towards Roswell.

~*~

He placed the last of the wildflowers on his grave. They had all died, one by one they had eventually left him.

He was the last of their group, the only one to survive the war.

“Alex, you were the first to leave us,” He whispered as he paused in thought. “Nothing has been the same since you left.”

He glanced at the flowers he had left at the seven graves, six of them had headstones made of wood. Headstones that he had carved himself.

He turned away as tears formed in his eyes.

He headed back into the nearly deserted town. As he walked past the Crashdown when he thought he saw a flicker of light.

“That’s odd,” He whispered. For one the electricity has not been used in ages and two the Crashdown has been deserted for three years.

He opened the door and looked around. He could hear the faint noise of someone crying.

“Hello?” He called out. Could their be another survivor in Roswell that he didn’t know about?

“Hello?” She cried out her voice cracking with tears. She looked up at him. She blinked back tears as she recognized his face. She ran to him and hugged him.

He wrapped his arms around her frail frame. Her tears were warm against his chest. “It’s okay.” He whispered. “What are you doing here? It’s not safe to be out of the compound.”

He continued to rub her back as her tears lessened. “Where is everyone?” She whispered still hiding her face in his chest.

He had no idea who she was, but for some reason she felt familiar. "Everyone that survived the war, that was living in Roswell are at the compound down the road,” he explained.

“What war?” She gasped as she looked up at him.

His eyes looked into her blue eyes, he knew those eyes. He pushed her away and looked at her. “Tess?” He gasped.

“Yes,” She whispered. “What happened? Where is everyone?”

“Don’t try to act all innocent. This is the result of a war! A war that you caused!” He groaned with anger as he turned away from her.

“Don’t turn away from me!” She cried. “Why is it my fault? I didn’t do anything!”

“You didn’t do anything?” He yelled, losing his temper. “You killed Alex! You left, breaking the strength of the royal four. Without the royal four they were not able to defeat-”

“But that’s not true!” She protested. “For one, I did not kill Alex and two, I’m not part of the royal four!”

“What!?” He gasped as she opened her mouth to explain. “Don’t,” he interupted.

“I can explain,” She objected.

“No. You'll just lie!” He growled as he turned away from her.

“Fine, I will find the others and tell them,” She mumbled as she pushed past him and headed towards the door.

“If you find them, tell them ‘Hi’ for me.” He laughed bitterly as she stopped in her tracks.

“What is that suppose to mean?” She asked turning around as she tried to search his gruff exterior for an answer. “Where are they?”

“Why should I tell you? Why do you even care?” He questioned as she began to cry.

“I have to find them, I have to tell them the truth.” She whispered. “Where’s Isabel?”

“She died in my arms, two years ago- she was my wife,” he replied softly as tears stung his eyes.

“Michael and Maria?” She inquired as she bit her lip with anticipation of bad news.

“They are gone too, they are all gone,” he managed to reply. "Are you happy?"

“No!!” She cried collapsing to the ground in tears. "It can't be true," She moaned as he walked over to her.

“A lot has happened since you left. It’s been almost 10 years.” He replied softly as he took her in his arms.

“10 years?” She gasped. “No, I haven't been gone that long. I just left." She mumbled through her tears. "I had only been on Antar for a few weeks when I found out the truth. I came back to help, to warn them-"

"It's too late."

"Is it?"

“It’s over, Tess.” He whispered harshly as he pulled away from her and started to walk away.

“No. I refuse to believe all my heartache was for nothing!” She cried wiping the tears from her eyes.

“Heartache?” He gasped and turned to her. “You have no idea what it is like to be betrayed, to have all your loved ones die in front of you.”

“Kyle, I didn’t mean that.”

“You betrayed us! You left with Max’s child.” He cried. “Do you know what that did to the group?”

“No,” she whispered as she started to shake. “I didn’t betray you.”

“Cut the crap, Tess! Max told us the truth, he told us what happened before you left.”

“You would believe him.” She replied harshly regaining her composure. “I lied. I was pissed. I knew I could save him- all of them.”

“What?”

“I loved you all as family.” Tess explained. “I’ve never had a family before, I couldn’t let them come with me. He would have killed them!”

“Who?”

“Alex.”

“Alex?” he gasped. “How can Alex kill them when you did!”

“Alex was not Alex, he was Khivar.”

He blinked at her as her words ran through his head. His reflection mirrored his feelings of shock and confusement. He glanced at her once more before he turned and walked away.

“Kyle!” She cried running after him.

“No! Leave me alone!” He cried as he continued to walk back to his home.

“Kyle, please let me explain!”

“No.” He replied as he stopped and turned to her. “I can’t trust you!”

“You mean you won’t trust me,” She whispered.

“You destroyed me, Tess!” He exclaimed as he cracked the door open to his past. “I loved you and you destroyed my life, my world! I have lost too much, for you to tell me more lies!!” He moaned as he started to walk away.

“You have not lost as much as I have!” She shouted back in defense.

“I lost my innocence, I lost my friends, I lost my wife, I lost my sons, and I lost the love of my life!” He explained harshly.

“Kyle- I-” She gasped trying to put the pieces together.

“Do me a favor and leave me the fuck alone!” He cried and ran away from her.

She stood in the middle of the street in shock. She dropped her hand to her abdomen and tried to soothe her pain.

She turned and looked at her reflection in a car window, trying to understand the recent events.

“Ten years? It doesn’t make sense,” She whispered to herself as she studied her reflection. She looked a little older, but ten years? It had only been two weeks.

She sat down on the cool cement and started to cry. Had she caused this war, the destruction. She wrapped her arms around her legs as the familiar pings of pain radiated from her abdomen. She placed her hand on her stomach, “It’s okay sweetie. We will find Kyle, he can’t stay mad at us forever- when he finds out the truth, he will love you.”

~*~

Kyle rushed past his fellow neighbors and went to his room. His mind was racing, he didn't understand. Everything was moving so fast.

“Fuck!” He cried as he slammed his hand against the wall leaving a small indention. “I should have let her explain, I should have found out her version of the truth.”

There were so many questions running around in his head. He need to talk to someone, he needed a friend- but, he had no one to turn too.

“What if she is telling the truth?!” He exclaimed.

He opened the closet and pulled out a box. He pulled out his wedding picture. A happy couple smiled back at him. They had struggled for so long with their feelings of their past and through the war. They had become close and in one night of passion they conceived a son, they married soon after. They were happy as they could have been, considering the circumstances.

“Oh, Isabel- what am I to do?” He moaned as tears filled his eyes. “I still love her."

*~*

Tess stood up and started to walk down the road. She was determined to tell Kyle the truth.

“Everyone lives in a compound down the road,” She mumbled to herself as she recalled what he had said earlier. “A compound? How am I going to-” Tess stopped in her tracks as she noticed the large building.

She walked up to the building and approached the guard on duty. “Does Kyle Valenti live here?” she asked softly.

“We have two.” He answered dryly as he looked her over. “Do you have you a CP?"

“CP?” She asked confused.

“A Compound Passport. You must have one to enter.” He explained as a young boy came running out of the compound. She looked into his green eyes and felt a familiar vibe.

“Hi,” the boy whispered as Tess kneeled down to look at him better. “You came back.”

“Yes. I came back,” She whispered as she reached her hand out to him and stroked his cheek.

“For the baby,” he whispered as he reached out and touched her abdomen, a soft glow coming from his hand.

“Yes-” She moaned as tears fell from her eyes. She wrapped her arms around him. The two embraced as Tess wiped her tears away. “What’s your name?”

”Kyle Alexander Guerin Valenti!” he replied proudly as he wiggled out of her embrace and pulled her to the door.

“Kyle. I can’t allow her in without a passport!” The guard announced as Kyle turned around and stared at the guard.

“Do you want me to go get my Dad!” He cried as the guard flinched in response.

“Go ahead.” He replied as he let the two go pass.

They entered the compound. Tess stopped and looked around the large main room. He tugged on her hand as she looked down at him.

“I want to show you something,” He whispered. She nodded in reply as he pulled her down the hall and into a small room.

Tess glanced around, the room had murals painted on the walls. Familiar scents of cedar and rose mingled in the air. Toys were littered on the floor.

Kyle went to a box and pulled out a binder. “Here,” he whispered as he gave her the binder. She opened the binder to see pictures off the past, her past. “That’s you,” he replied as he pointed to the prom picture.

“Yes,” she whispered as her fingers traced over the prom picture. It was the last happy moment for the group.

She looked up as her memories of the past raced through her head.

“He will understand-” He whispered as she looked over at him.

“How do you know?” She gasped as he took her hand in his.

“I just do.” He whispered as he squeezed her hand. Tess sighed as she put her arm around the little boy. He seemed to know too much for his age.

She turned the page to reveal a wedding picture of Michael and Maria- they looked happy.

“That’s my mommy and daddy,” He whispered sadly. “The angels took them away.”

“They loved each other and they loved you.”

“I miss them,” he whispered as he climbed into her lap.

“They are watching over you.” She replied softly as she squeezed him tight. “I miss them too.”

They sat for awhile on the bed, comforted with each other’s presence.

“Kyle it’s time for dinner,” A voice rang out as the two on the bed looked up at the door.

“Daddy- she’s going to have your baby!” little Kyle cried out as he jumped out of his lap and ran over to him.

“Why don’t you go eat, while I talk to Tess,” He whispered softly as he looked over at Tess.

“Okay,” He replied as he went back over to Tess. “You stay here, don’t leave!”

“I will be waiting for you,” she replied as she kissed his hand.

“You promise?” He asked with large grin on his face.

“I promise,” she replied with a small smile. He nodded and ran out of the room.

Kyle remained at the door and looked over at Tess with disbelief. “How could you tell him you were pregnant?” He inquired his temper flaring.

“I didn’t, he felt him.”

“Really? Then why does he think the baby is mine?”

“It is.”

“Bull!”

“Kyle we were lovers for months and one time I guess we were not as careful,” She explanied quickly, standing up. “I mindwarped you into thinking we were not lovers and to think of me as a sister. I never slept with Max, I am pregnant with your child!”

“What? Why?” He cried in disbelief.

“He was getting suspicious- I did not want him to know how much you really meant to me. He would have killed you!”

“No, it’s not possible! It’s been 10 years!”

“I don’t know anything about space travel, I only thought I was gone for a month!”

“It's not possible!” He cried again as he sat down to think. His mind was racing, he didn’t know what to think.

“I love you!” She cried as she pushed him back on the bed. Using a little extra power she pinned him to the bed. “Deep down, I know you love me too.”

Her lips lingered over his eyes, his cheeks, and she paused over his lips. She flickered her tongue softly onto his lips... teasing him. She wanted him to kiss her.

Their breathing became a little deeper and he stopped pushing her away. She remained on top of him, their lips barely touching.

“Tess,” He moaned as he flipped her over and pinned her to the bed, his lips lingered over her lips.

“Kyle,” She moaned in response to his hand on her body.

He leaned in and kissed her, sparks of electricity ran through their bodies. They were engulfed with passion, he pulled her shirt off and placed his hand on her slightly rounded abdomen. A glow radiated with in.

“Our baby?”

“Yes.”

“I remember, you showed me.”

“Tess.”

“Mmm-”

“We have to stop,” Kyle moaned his voice deep and wanting.

“Kyle?” She managed to whisper. She shivered slightly as he pulled away from her.

“If we don’t stop now, I won’t be able to stop,” He whispered as he pulled his shirt back on.

“So?” She whined as she sat up as he started to redress her

“You do realize that we are in Kyle’s room,” he laughed. “I don’t want him to-”

Tess stopped him in mid sentence with a mind blowing kiss. “That’s so sweet!” she purred as she wrapped her arms around him.

“Wow, umm. I forgot what I was talking about?” He asked as he put his fingers to his lips.

“You are a good father.” She whispered as he looked away from her, his body tensing under her embrace. “Kyle?”

“I lost two sons in the war,” he whispered.

“Oh, Kyle-” She moaned as she tightened her embrace. “Will you tell me about them? Your family, Isabel, and all the rest?”

“Yes, I will tell you everything.”

“But first, I am dying to know why Michael and Maria’s little boy is named after you?”

“It was Maria’s way of thanking me, I helped her through her pregnancy and through the delivery. I'm a doctor.”

“You?” She giggled as she sat down on the bed.

“Yes. It’s not that funny!” He laughed as he sat down next to her.

“Remedial science class?” She replied still giggling.

“That just shows them. I even managed to graduate with honors,” Kyle replied smugly.

“My man’s a doctor!” She exclaimed as she kissed him again. “You know, I always thought Liz would be the doctor of the group.”

“No, Liz left with Sean a year after you left.”

“What?” Tess cried.

“She left and she married Sean. They were killed in a military compound about five years ago.” Kyle explained as Tess sat there in shock.

“It’s all my fault!” She cried.

“You did not make her run off with Sean!”

“Oh, God!! She was suppose to stay!!” Tess cried out.

“Tess?” Kyle whispered trying to calm her down.

“She was the true fourth!”

“What?” Kyle gasped.

“After marrying Max and cementing their bond she would have inherited her powers!!” Tess continued to ramble on.

“What?!”

“On Antar, I found out the truth. I was the second Queen. That’s why they always called me the bride. We had just gotten married. Liz was the first queen. She was a hybrid, like us. She came later, at a different time- the royal four was not strong enough. They needed to send the first queen!” Tess mumbled as she fell back on the bed.

“Umm.”

“It is my fault!! The war, the destruction!!” Tess moaned as she started to cry.

“Tess,” Kyle whispered as he gathered her into his arms.

“Oh, Kyle- I was so weak! Why did I let him manipulate me? I should have told Max- I could have saved-”

“Tess!”

“If I had figured it out sooner, if he had not come-”

“Who?”

“Khivar!”

“Khivar?!”

“He threatened me. He said I had to fulfill Nesado’s promise! He had already hurt Alex- I couldn’t let him hurt you!”

“How did he hurt Alex?”

“Remember how Larek went through Brody?” Tess asked through her tears.

“Yes.”

“Khivar’s link to this world was Alex.”

“Daddy!! Tessie!!” Kyle cried as he ran into the room, breaking up the beginning of another heated discussion, and jumped onto Tess’ lap.

“Did you eat all of your dinner?” Tess asked softly as she sat up and wrapped her arms around his small frame.

“Yep!” He giggled as he looked at the two of them and grinned.

“Let’s go get dessert!” Tess exclaimed. “We will talk later,” She informed Kyle as she took little Kyle in her arms.

Kyle nodded and watched them leave the room. He glanced down and noticed Michael and Maria’s wedding pictures.

“He’s a great little boy, a little rambunctious with his powers, but he is a good boy.” Kyle sighed as he traced his fingers over the picture. Those were the good memories he cherished, he slowly picked up the binder and put it back into the box.

Kyle looked around the room at the murals Michael had painted. One wall was devoted to the stars and the V constellation; another wall was a lavish garden; and on the last wall was the beach at sunset.

Kyle sighed and left the room with his memories haunting him. He walked back to his room and dropped to his bed.

~*~

“Kyle?” Her voice rang out.

“Hi, what time is it?” He asked as he blinked his eyes open and stared into her eyes.

“If we want to take the boys out, we have to go now.” She exclaimed as she pulled him out of bed.

“What? No kiss?” He inquired as she wrapped her arms around him.

She smiled, leaned in and kissed him slowly on the lips as two toddlers ran into the room.

“Alex and Michael, hold on!” He cried as the two boys pulled on his legs.

“Are we ready to go?” She asked in a motherly tone.

“Yes!!” The boys cried out.

“Are you sure you can handle the outing, Isabel?” He asked concerned as he placed his hand on her swollen stomach.

“Yes, silly! You’re the doctor and you will be with me,” She whispered as she kissed him quickly on the cheek.

“Isabel, I can’t lose you too.”

“I’m not going anywhere,” she answered as she headed for the door. “We better go.”

~*~

“Isabel!” Kyle cried as he sat up in bed. It was a dream of their last day together, she had lied.

Kyle got up and walked over to little Kyle’s room.

He was amazed to see Tess and Kyle curled up in bed together. They had quickly formed a tight bond together.

He sighed and leaned against the wall, he needed to be near them, he needed to know that he wasn’t the only one.

*~*

"Mommy!! No!!" A tortured voice cried into the night's air.

Tess awoke to the cry of heartache as she looked over at the little boy next to her. She placed her hand on his back and rubbed it gently.

"No!! Daddy!!" He continued to cry. Tess wrapped her arms around him.

"Ky... sweetie? Wake up," Tess whispered as the boy began to cry. "Kyle?"

"Huh?" Kyle replied from the floor. Tess looked over at him with a slightly confused look on her face.

"Kyle? What are you doing in here?" Tess asked as he pulled himself off the floor and walked over to the bed.

"Mommy, mommy, mommy, DADDY!!!"

"What's wrong?" She inquired softly. "Has this happened before?"

"Oh, God-" He moaned. "I thought they were gone."

"What?" Tess inquired.

"Mommy!!" Ky continued to cry.

"The nightmares."

"Nightmares? Of what?" Tess whispered.

"We never found out," He replied softly as he put his arms around the boy.

"I can try to dreamwalk him," She suggested.

"No." Kyle replied harshly.

"Why not?"

"Max tried, he was never the same. He was haunted by his nightmares-"

"If a grown man can't handle the memories, how can a little boy?" Tess protested as she settled back into the bed.

Tess took a deep breath. She knew her abilities of sleepwalking were slim to none. But, she had to try, for him.

Tess opened her eyes, she was in. She looked around the vast open space. She was in a garden filled with flowers and trees. She could hear children laughing, children singing.

"This can't be right," Tess mumbled to herself as she continued to walk around the garden.

Tess stopped as she saw them, it seemed surreal; it was beautiful, it was romantic.

"That should have been me." Tess whispered as she watched Kyle and Isabel kiss under a tree.

Tess looked away as tears threatened to escape. She noticed three little boys running around Maria.

Tess smiled. "This is a good dream," she whispered to herself.

"Go away!!" A voice cried behind her.

"Ky?" Tess whispered as she turned to the voice.

"This is my dream."

"Let me help you."

"You are not my Mommy!" He cried harshly. Tess flinched a the comment and froze in place.

"Ky!" She protested as she heard a gun blast behind her.

She turned to see a group of soldiers invading the garden... shooting at everything and everyone.

"Get out!!" Ky cried as Tess felt herself being pushed out.

"No!" Tess cried as she opened her eyes to see the room around her. Her eyes locked with Kyle, "You were there. You know what his nightmares are about."

Kyle turned away from Tess. He couldn't face her, he couldn't tell her.

"Kyle," Tess whispered harshly as she gently pulled herself away from Ky. She reached over and grabbed Kyle by his arm and dragged him into his room. "Tell me what happened."

"I can't."

"There is a little boy next door that needs you."

Kyle looked away and walked to the window, "I can't."

"You were there, I saw you."

"I don't remember," he moaned as he sank to the floor.

"What?"

"Max blocked off my memories."

"Why?" Tess gasped.

"I was in shock and he needed a doctor."

"That is no excuse, he could have hurt you!"

"I don't know what’s worse; not knowing, or the feeling of emptiness."

"Oh, Kyle," She whispered as she placed her arms around him.

She was determined to find out the truth. She kissed him softly on the lips as she pushed herself into his mind.

She was surrounded by darkness.

“Show me Kyle. Show me the truth.”

“You can’t handle the truth!” Kyle responded as he appeared in front of him. His clothes were torn and his clothes and skin were coated in blood.

“Kyle?”

“He can’t know the truth.”

“Why?”

“Would you want to know? Would you want to see?”

“See what?”

The darkness faded away as the garden sprang back to life.

“It was a group outing, a celebration of sorts for the end of the war.” Kyle explained as the familiar sound of laughter filled the air.

“A celebration?”

“Yes, we thought it was the end of the war, but they had one last attack,” He whispered as he turned away. “That attack killed 30 peopled in all, half were only children.”

“But why?”

“War doesn’t make sense. Watch and learn,” He whispered as he disappeared. Tess looked around the garden.

Tess felt uneasy. She no longer wanted to see, she no longer wanted to know. She could feel the energy intensify in the air.

She watched frozen in time as a gunman shot at Kyle and Isabel.

~*~

“No! Isabel?” I cried as I felt the burning in my chest. I rolled over to see her lying beside me.

It was so sudden, I didn't even remember the fall to the ground. I crawled over to Isabel.

“Kyle,” She moaned as I gathered her in my arms.

“Izzy, I’m here.” I moaned as I pressed my hand over her open wound, trying to stop the flow of blood.

“The boys,” she coughed as a trickle of blood escaped her lips.

“The boys!” I cried as I looked up to where I remember them playing. I couldn’t make out the figures through the smoke.

“Go to them. Save our boys,” Isabel moaned as she clutched her abdomen.

“Isabel, I can’t leave you.”

“You must, they are so young. I love you.”

“Don’t say that, don’t give up. I need you.”

“Hurry, bring them to me.”

I nodded as tears fell from my eyes. I ignored the burning and pain and crawled to the boys.

I found them near Maria’s body. “Maria?”

“Kyle? It hurts,” She whispered. I turned her over and pulled her son out of her arms.

“Mommy?” He whispered as I quickly looked him over, no injuries to be seen.

“Ky, my baby,” she moaned as she reached her hand out to him.

“Maria? Oh, baby. What happened?” Michael cried as he ran to her side.

“Daddy?” Ky cried.

“Can you take care of them?” I asked as I glanced at my boys lying nearby.

“Yes.”

I nodded and pulled myself towards the boys. I looked at their dusky complexion and I knew.

The tears came stronger, I paused mustering up my strength. Ignoring the pain, I picked up my sons and walked back over to Isabel. I placed them beside her.

“Izzy?”

“Kyle, it’s so dark.”

“I know baby-”

“Where are the boys?”

“They are right here.”

“I love you.”

“I love you,” I replied as I kissed her softly as I felt the last breath of air escape her lips. My family was gone.

I fell to the ground as the pain grew stronger. My hand still held onto hers. I could hear the footsteps and crying around me.

It was getting so dark.

I looked over at Michael crying over Maria’s body.

“Michael!” I tried to cry as I noticed another soldier coming up from behind him. The blow was quick and deadly.

The burning increased, I found it harder to breathe. I closed my eyes...

“Kyle?” a voice rang out. “Open your eyes!”

I looked up to see Max leaning over me. “No,” I moaned. Let me die, let me go with my family.

“I need your help.”

“No.”

“Yes!”

~*~

Tess continued to cry as Kyle’s locked memories came to a close.

“Are you happy?” Kyle asked as he reappeared and the garden disappeared.

“No,” She moaned as she sank to the ground and wrapped her arms around her legs. “Why? Oh, why did this happen?” She cried, but no one answered.

*~*

“Tess?” Kyle cried as he tried waking her up. It had been an hour since she fell asleep. “Tess?”

“No,” She moaned as she looked up at him.

“Tess what happened?” He inquired as he wrapped his arms around her.

“I’m sorry,” She whispered as she continued to cry in his arms.

“What happened?”

“I saw the truth.”

“The truth?”

“Ahh!!” Tess cried in response as she doubled over in pain.

“Tess?”

“The baby,” She moaned as they watched her abdomen start to glow.

“It’s time.”

“What?” She cried as a wave of pain traveled through her body.

“Isabel started to glow when it was time to deliver the baby.”

“It’s not time!”

“It’s time,” He repeated as he positioned her on the bed. “We have no idea what space travel did to the baby.” He explained as he went to the closet and pulled out a white bag. He opened the bag to display various medical equipment for the birthing process.

“Augh!”

“Drink this,” Kyle ordered as he handed her a small glass of clear liquid.

Tess nodded and drank the warm drink. She coughed as it tickled the back of her throat. She felt a wave of comfort run through her body.

“Ready?” He asked softly as he got into position.

“Yes.”

“Breathe in, breathe out-”

“Augh.”

“Push.”

“Ahh!”

“Breathe in, breathe out-”

“Augh!”

“The head is out- hold on,” He commanded as he cleared the babies nose and mouth with a bulb suction.

“Ahh!”

“It’s a boy,” He whispered as he clamped the umbilical cord and cleaned him up. The little boy started to cry as he wrapped him up. “Tess?”

Tess smiled weakly as Kyle handed her the little bundle. She sat up and rocked the baby in her arms. He looked at them and smiled... his heart started to soar, he had a family.

“Kyle, I don’t feel...” she moaned as she fell back onto the bed.

“Oh, God Tess!” Kyle cried as he searched for her pulse. “Don’t leave me. Tess!” Kyle gasped as he felt her weak and thready pulse. “Tess?!”

“Hmm,” She moaned as her eyes fluttered open. Her vision was blurry, her extremities felt numb.

“Tess,” He whispered as they made eye contact. He placed his hand on her chest.

Tess felt a warm sensation as Kyle made contact with her.

“Kyle, how?” Tess gasped sitting up, feeling better.

“You hand some internal bleeding, you were dying,” Kyle whispered as he pulled her into his embrace. “I couldn’t lose you too.”

“But how?”

“I gained the ability to heal after Max healed me for the third time,” Kyle explained as he turned away from her and picked up their son.

“How many times did he heal you?” Tess asked as she took her son into her arms.

“Four in all. I never had the chance to repay him,” Kyle whispered as he wrapped his arm around her and their son.

“He’s beautiful,” Tess purred as she snuggled into Kyle’s chest.

“Just like his mother,” He whispered as he kissed her softly on her forehead.

They enjoyed the silence. They knew that there were questions that would have to be answered. But, they needed time to rest before they had to relive their past once more.

*~*

“Daddy!” a voice cried as Kyle awoke from his slumber. Kyle glanced over at Tess and the baby sleeping beside him. He turned his attention towards Ky as he climbed onto the bed. “Baby,” Ky whispered.

“Yes,” Kyle whispered as a smile crept over his face.

Ky reached out and stroked the baby’s face, the baby looked up at Ky and started to glow. “Baby’s happy,” he whispered as Tess began to stir.

“Good morning,” She whispered as she looked up at Kyle and Ky.

“Can I hold the baby?” Ky asked softly.

“Yes,” Tess replied as she picked up the baby and handed the small bundle to Ky.

“What’s his name?” Ky asked as he held the baby close.

“Erik Maxwell Valenti,” Tess replied as she looked over at Kyle for approval.

“Why Erik?” Kyle inquired slightly confused.

“He was a soldier that helped me escape from, Antar. He helped me come home to you.”

“Then, Erik Maxwell, it is.”

“Hi, Erik!” Ky cooed to the baby.

“Ky, why don’t you go and get some breakfast. Tess and I have to talk.”

“Okay,” Ky replied as he handed little Trevor back over to Tess. Kyle watched as Ky skipped out of the room.

He turned his attention to, Tess, as he watched her gently and carefully began to breastfeed their baby. He sighed as he took in the beautiful sight.

“When I healed you, I had flashes of the past. I had flashes of Alex.”

“Khivar had taken over his body and was using him. His presence and influence was slowly killing him.”

“Alex killed himself for us?”

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t you tell us? We could have tried to stop Khivar.”

“Khivar was in me. I could feel him. I had no choice but to make them think I had betrayed them.”

“But Alex?”

“Alex was close to dying, by giving his life for us he gave his death meaning. He would have died soon anyway. Khivar would have seen to that.”

“When did you find out about Khivar?”

“When, Alex, supposedly came back from Sweden.”

“Why didn’t you tell someone then?”

“He threatened to kill you and I couldn’t risk losing you.”

“I’m here now,” Kyle whispered as he wrapped his arms around her.

“I love you,” she whispered as she leaned back into his embrace.

“I love you too,” he moaned.

*~*

Kyle felt a rush of electricity in the air. The sparks nipped at his skin as he shot up in bed.

"Tess!" He called out to an empty room.

Kyle glanced around the room as it morphed into a larger room. His surroundings were unfamiliar.

Kyle stumbled out of bed and tried to grasp onto his bearings. His mind raced with images of his past and present.

"Kyle, you are not even ready?" Isabel smirked as she walked in the room.

"Isabel?" Kyle voice cracked as he continued to stare at the image in front of him.

"The boys will be upset if you don't get a move on it," Isabel replied as she walked past him and went to the closet.

"The boys?" Kyle gasped. His mind raced, "am I'm dreaming?"

"No," Isabel responded as she turned to him. "Kyle? What's wrong?"

"I-" Kyle mumbled as a young boy walked in. His blond curls and dazzling blue eyes reminded him of Tess.

"Erik. What have I told you about knocking before entering?" Isabel warned as Erik turned around and knocked on the door.

"Dad!" He cried out again. "Can we go now?"

"Where?" Kyle asked confused.

"Mom!" Another boy ran in followed closely by his twin.

"Alex, Michael. What have I told you about knocking before entering?" Alex stopped in his tracks and looked over at Erik and rolled his eyes.

"Knock, knock." He replied as he stood by his brother.

Kyle couldn't help but laugh at his boys, his sons.

"Kyle!" Isabel screeched as she hit him playfully on his shoulder. "That doesn't help."

"Everyone, out so I can get ready!" Kyle announced as he smiled at his boys.

"We can't be late, Michael and Maria will kill us. And poor Ky will be crushed if his favorite uncle doesn't show-" Isabel rambled on as Kyle watched her dress.

He did not know what was happening, he did not understand. It was a dream come true.

"Kyle?" Isabel questioned. "You haven't heard a thing I have said. What's wrong?"

Kyle smiled as she wrapped her arms around him. He moaned softly to her touch. They kissed tenderly.

"Mommie!" A girl's voice cried as she walked into the room. Her blond ringlets bounced in the air. She looked just like Isabel.

"Tessie, how's my little girl?" Isabel whispered as she picked her up in her arms.

Kyle patted the girl on her head and walked in to the bathroom. He looked at his reflection. He looked the same, but his memories were changing, as if they were being replaced.

Kyle knew something had happened. Kyle thought back to when Tess and him were talking at the Crashdown earlier.

"It's too late." His voice echoed in his ears.

"Is it?" Tess had whispered in reply.

His mind raced. She had changed time, she had gone back.

"Kyle! Max is on the phone!" Isabel shouted through the door.

"Max?" Kyle whispered as he walked out of the bathroom and picked up the phone.

"Kyle?"

"Yes."

"It's time. I need to speak to you in private. I have to tell you something, something about your past, about Tess."

"I'll be over soon as soon as I can."

~

After a day in the park and a party for Ky. Kyle and Max had a free second for themselves.

"She asked me to give this to you," Max replied as he handed Kyle a letter.

Kyle sighed as he opened it up. Her words burned his eyes as she explained that she had to go back and change her wrong doings.

"You have no clue what has happened do you?" Max asked.

"No, my past does not correlate with yours. I remember a past of sadness, death, and war." Kyle sighed as he looked at Max. "Yesterday, you were all dead and Tess was in my arms."

"Tess came to me. She poured out her soul and told me what the future had in store for all of us. She said today would be the day that your present would catch up to our reality," Max explained. "You are in a time vortex where you remember both worlds."

"And tomorrow?" Kyle asked.

"You will forget the past."

Kyle looked over the letter. "What happened to Tess?"

"After she came to me. I confronted Alex and pushed Khivar out of his mind. Tess never knew about what would have happened."

"Erik, is our son." Kyle replied.

"Yes, she died in child birth. She was the first to have a baby, we were inexperienced- we didn't know how our bodies would react."

"And Alex?"

"Ironic as it may seem, but he died in a car crash. A drunk driver hit their car. Isabel was in a coma for a few days afterwards. You helped her through the hard times, you had both lost a loved one."

"The war?"

"With Liz as the fourth we were able to end it before it started. Tess changed the future."

Kyle nodded and walked over to Isabel. He now knew he was meant to be with Isabel, he had no more regrets. Thanks to Tess, he had a family. He no longer felt empty, he had resolved his feelings.

Tomorrow would be a new world for him to live.
