Summary Another look into Clark and Lex's Life, following the events of Main Attraction
Author's Note Since the muse is talking, here is another slice in the AU I've created for my SVFF fic.

Lex woke up with a start, glancing widely around the room as the remnants of a cry echoed in his ears. He stiffened slightly as he waited with anticipation for something more to be heard, but only silence answered him and he started to relax back into his bed. He tried to tell himself it was nothing, when he heard a muffled ‘no’ ringing through the air. Lex darted out of his bed and immediately ran toward Clark’s room.

His breathing hitched as he tried to consider the reasons for Clark to cry out, this felt wrong. With every step down the long hallway, he loathed even more that he agreed to Clark’s request that they have separate bedrooms. Although Clark promised that most nights they would share a bed, tonight wasn’t one of them. Tonight Lex had a late meeting, tonight he slept alone in his own bed and he hated it.

“Noooo!” Clark cried out once more and Lex dashed into the room, his heart stopping at the sight of him thrashing in his sleep.

“Clark?” Lex began, trying to calm him by placing his hands on his lover’s chest. “Clark, wake up! It’s only a dream.” Clark’s body trembled under Lex’s familiar touch. “Clark.” He repeated a little more urgently as Clark stilled underneath him and took a deep claming breath.

Clark blinked up at Lex and whispered, “Lex.”

“Shhh,” he smiled as he sat down beside him, running his hands over Clark’s chest. “I’m here.” He reaffirmed as his eyes locked with Clark’s. “Was it a nightmare?” He questioned, needing to know for sure what haunted Clark’s dreams.

“Kind of,” he nodded in reply as he pulled away from Lex and pushed himself up to a seated position. “It’s one of my first memories of being here. I haven’t dreamt them in years,” Clark sighed, nervously crossing his arms across his chest. “But this time there was more.”

“Tell me,” Lex urged and Clark sighed, reaching out and threading his fingers through Lex’s.

“I don’t remember much, but each time I remember a little more after I wake up.” he began as he closed his eyes, leaning his head against the headboard. “There’s this woman, who has a caring face and red hair. She has such a loving aura around her and I know her only wish was for me to be her son. My heart soared at the love I felt from her.” Clark smiled as he gazed at Lex. “Her husband was always by her side, a farmer. As a child he appeared to be so tall, built strong and mighty. Compared to his wife, he had more of a gruff exterior, but the love and respect in his eyes- they loved each other, but you could feel that something was missing, and I know I was the missing piece. They were going to adopt me.”

“They sound so caring,” Lex began with a faint smile. “I don’t understand why this image of love causes your nightmares.” Lex stated, squeezing Clark’s hand. “What happens?”

“There’s an argument,” he clarified, shifting slightly. “Their words were still foreign to me, I didn’t understand or rather I didn’t when I was younger. The man that wanted to be my father wouldn’t agree to the terms of my so-called adoption. They came here for help, for legal adoption papers. They knew I wasn’t like them, and they were trying to protect me- it’s kinda hard to have real papers if you’re an alien.”

“I see,” Lex nodded, trying to piece all the information together.

“We were in a car for what seemed like forever, and then we drove into town- the buildings were bigger then anything I’d have ever seen. I was in awe.” Clark smiled. “I remember it being a cold day or so they said. To keep me warm, she placed a red blanket around my shoulders and she held me close. Even though I didn’t feel the coolness of that day or any day thereafter, I could feel her warmth and her love.”

“She sounds like a wonderful woman,” he commented as he felt Clark stiffen slightly. “What else do you remember?”

“A man, the one that was going to make their dreams come true-” Clark’s voice trailed off as he tightened his hold onto Lex. “Your father,” Clark whispered and Lex froze, glancing up and staring at him.

“My father?” He questioned sharply as he felt his body turning cold. “How is that possible?”

“I didn’t realize who the man was in my nightmares, until I meet him last week.” Clark sighed. “His hair was shorter and he had less facial hair, but it was him- his eyes.”

“Oh, god, Clark.” Lex gasped as he pulled his fingers away and ran it over his scalp.

“I was afraid to mention it when I realized he was the same man.” He whispered, gazing back down at the sheets. “I don’t remember anymore, but I fear he was the cause of their disappearance and my flight into the forest.”

“Clark,” Lex groaned. “I’m so sorry- I don’t know what my father has done, but we will find out. Together.”

“Together,” Clark sighed, leaning forward and resting his forehead against Lex’s. Pausing only briefly before he leaned in and kissed Lex. “Stay with me tonight.”

“I’d like that,” Lex nodded and crawled under the sheets with Clark.

“Thank you,” Clark smiled as he wrapped his arms around Lex and snuggled closer. “Good night.”

“Good night,” Lex whispered in reply placing a kiss to his lips. “Sleep.”

Lex remained awake as he felt Clark fall back into a restful sleep. He ran his hands through his thick wavy hair as he continued to ponder Clark’s words. He couldn’t stop thinking about was his father. Were Clark’s dreams true? Had his father been the cause? He sighed and closed his eyes, knowing he couldn’t do anything until the morning. Tomorrow he’d find the answers he needed to complete the puzzle. “We’ll find the answers,” Lex whispered as he pressed a small kiss to Clark’s skin. “We will unlock the mysteries of your past.”

The end.
