I glanced out at the darkening sky, the stars straining to light up the hazy night's sky. The city appeared almost serene and the streets were relatively quiet for this time of night. No one was around.

Pity.

I shifted my position and turned to the eastern border, my senses on guard, waiting for anything to happen.

A stone skittered across the rooftop and I turned to the intruder. Hissing slightly as my gaze locked with hers. "What do I owe the pleasure?"

"Batman," she smiled, taking a tentative step toward me.

"This is my town," I replied dryly as I turned away from her. "Go home, Superwoman, you're presence is not needed here."

"I just wanted to see," she began and I tensed at her words, already knowing what she was seeking.

"I'd love to talk, but I'm busy." I replied, nonchalantly as I stood up and jumped down to the next roof.

"Why do you always turn away from me?" She insisted as she swooped down next to me. "I want to help, to be like you-"

"You can never be like me," I insisted, my gaze locking with hers. "You are not human."

"That isn't fair," she groaned, wrapping her arms across her chest. "I've lived here all my life, I want to help."

"Why?" I questioned, stepping closer to her, trying to intimidate her.

"It is what's right to do." She answered simply as if that was the only reason for fighting crime.

"And who determines what is right?" I inquired as I leaned forward, cowering over her.

She flinched slightly, but held onto her stance. "Oh, so you know what's right and wrong and I don't?"

"As I said earlier, you are not human."

"What does that have to do with it?" She questioned, her eyes glowing red for a split second, almost proving my point.

"Can you promise me without a doubt, that one day you will not just wipe out the world?" I countered as she flinched. "Because you can? Because you think it's right?"

"Of, course." She replied hesitantly, looking away from me.

"No you can't," I insisted. "As long as there are meteorites in our atmosphere, you can truly never know how you will react, you are an alien. You can't deny that."

"Fine," she growled. "What is it that you want me to say?"

"I want you to go home, and leave the crime fighting alone." I stated firmly as my gloved fingers ghosted over her face.

She pursed her lips together. "I will not be intimidated by you." She growled her fingers wrapping onto my hand. "I will fight the crime that litters the streets and I will make this a better place to live."

"I can't stop you, can I?" I voiced, snatching my hand away. "No human can."

Her eyes widened slightly with understanding. "Even you."

"How can I trust you?" I challenged. "You can destroy anything with a glance; you can kill with a flick of your hand. You've done it in the past- there's nothing to stop you."

"I can't answer that for you," she replied softly, sighing heavily. "You don't even trust yourself."

I stared at her, my heart aching at her words. "Then I guess we are even."

"You hide behind your mask, in more ways then one," she remarked turning away from me. "I just want to help."

"That's fine," I replied dryly. "You can do whatever you want, remember I can't stop you."

"Kryptonite can," she offered and I stared at her with curiosity.

"Kryptonite?" I repeated, as she nodded.

"The meteorites that you mentioned earlier can hurt me," she explained, her voice softening. "They can stop me."

"I didn't realize," I replied softly. "I knew they affected you in some manner, but I never had valid proof that it did. Why tell me?"

"I trust you," she whispered and my heart skipped a beat, overwhelmed by her statement.

"Why?" I couldn't help but ask.

She laughed, a smile brightening her face. "I admire you; I want to get to know you- to learn from you."

I laughed at that, shaking my head. "You know all that I can teach you. You have other advantages then us mere humans."

"I think you have a lot to offer," she shrugged, a smile tugging at her lips. "Please? Just one night."

I groaned shaking my head. "Fine, one night." She hid her excitement well and for a second I thought she would lean over and hug me- a part of me almost wished she did.

The End.
