She had no choice, she had to save him- it was her only choice. He didn't even know that she had saved him.
Lex.
Now he wouldn't even look at her, their fight still fresh in his mind. She had to witness it twice, but this time she would be the only one that remembered what had followed the first night. Now only she would know, she was the only witness to the love they renewed, the promises they remade, it had been perfect.
And now everything was wrong.
Her tears fell more readily as she tried to blink them away, the last few days blurring in her mind.
She looked around at the expectant faces, family and friends, the brilliant white snow blanketing everything in its wake- renewing and blessing everything it touched.
She sucked in a quick breath as his fingers touched hers and she squeezed them, knowing that this would be the only support she would receive from him.
He wanted more, he needed more, and she gave it to him that night before everything was reversed. She finally told him the truth, everything that had happened, everything that he had forgotten.
He remembered and than he died in a brilliant crash. She didn't think it was possible, not Lex. He was invincible, or so she thought.
The image was burned into her mind- she could still feel his blood on her hands. She cried and made a pact with her father- no, the devil.
She couldn't imagine a life without him in her life, no matter in what context. Even if they could only be friends-
She didn't expect that he would turn to someone else; she didn't expect that her father would end up paying the price.
Lex squeezed her hand one last time and let go, her heart squeezed painfully tight and she knew that she wouldn't be touched by him again, he had moved on-
She glanced up in time to see him wrap his arm around her; she had given him everything that he needed at the time. She didn't realize that they had become so close until it happened.
Lana had filled her place in his life. In one moment, she had lost more than she thought possible- her father, her best friend, and her lover.
And she chose this. He had warned her before he turned back the clock that this was possible; she thought she understood the consequences, but she was wrong.
She wrapped her arms around her chest, trying to seal the warmth that remained. Her mother stood at her side, and her father rested in the coffin.
Her choice, her loss, only now she didn't know if it was worth it, only time would tell. |
