A look into a one of Jack O'Neill's current case. |
Dr. Janet Fraiser gathered her files and glanced once more over her notes. She sighed deeply before, clicking on her tape recorder, “it would further note that the hemorrhaging of the brain tissue caused significant edema that-”
“Dr. Fraiser,” a muffled voice interrupted as she heard a quick rap on the door. She glanced up and motioned the Senior Partner to come in.
“Jack,” she acknowledged briskly and turned off the recorder. “I assume you are here to find out about the Baal case?”
“Well?” Jack began as he started to pace back and forth. “Does the testimony stand?”
“No.” She sighed as he let out a large hiss.
“I knew it,” he groaned, clenching his fists tighter together. “He’s going down.”
“He has a solid alibi,” Dr. Fraiser reminded as she watched the turmoil of emotions flicker over his face.
“Technicality,” Jack hissed. “He killed his own child.”
“And all we have now is my testimony that their words don’t match the evidence.” She sighed as she ran her fingers over the black and white notes before her.
“There has to be more,” Jack sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. “He has to pay.”
Dr. Fraiser sighed, getting up form her desk and crossing over to him. “You can only do what you can-“
“That’s not enough,” He snapped. “And you know it. We can not let Mr. Hot Shot get away with murdering his own child.”
“This isn’t about Charlie.” She whispered softly, watching him tense at her words. “You weren’t able to put his murderer away.”
“I know,” Jack replied dryly pulling away from her touch. “But, he will pay for his crimes. I know he did it.”
“Maybe you should remove yourself from the case.” Dr. Fraiser suggested and he growled once more.
“Janet, you are out of order, stick to the facts that you know.” He snapped as he turned to leave.
“I just don’t want to see you hurt,” she whispered as he visibly shuddered and walked out of the room.

Jack walked with purpose and stopped in front of one of the Junior partner’s office door. He knocked on it briefly, before he stuck his head in and glanced at the younger man behind the desk. “Daniel, my office, now.”
“What? Jack?” Daniel replied as he pointed to the stack of flies on his desk. “Um, I’m kinda busy here.”
“Get your multilingual ass in my office, now.” Jack stated firmly.
“Is that an order?” He questioned, raising an eyebrow slightly.
“And don’t make me repeat it,” Jack snorted and turned away. Daniel groaned and quickly followed him back to his office.
“So?” Daniel began as he leaned against the door frame as Jack to a seat at his desk.
“I need you.” Jack stated as he clasped his hands together and leaned his elbows up against the desk.
“Do you?” Daniel teased, leaning forward and smiling. “You do remember I’m a married man now.”
"For what, a week now?" Jack rolled his eyes. “I need your help on the Baal case.”
“Oh,” He gasped. “Baal? Er, the baby case on the century?”
“Yes.” Jack nodded.
Daniel stiffened, not wanting to take on the case load. “Why not get Jonas to do your bench work? I have other cases-“
“I want your help, not Jonas’, he still has a lot to learn and this is a high profiled case.” Jack added.
“But, Jack-"
“Daniel.”
“Jack.”
“Don’t make me bring Hammond into this,” Jack stated firmly in warning. “You know how he can be.”
“Fine.” Daniel sighed, glancing at his watch.
“Good,” Jack grinned. “I’ll see you back here in the morning, have a good night.”
“Night, Jack,” He managed to reply as he watched the senior partner leave and he wondered once more why he got into law.
